LO1 Task 2; BBC Bitesize






A) Purpose - The purpose of this website is to educate and inform about a variety of different key stages and GCSE courses. It allows you to pick from a variety of subjects like Computing, Maths, English, Science, Spanish and many more. It allows you to look at different subjects within the course which allows you to take Mock tests, look at questions and answers, videos showing you how and why something happens or is done and you can even use the interactive programme which allows you to click things on the computer and watch them happen and it shows you why and how.

B) Visitor Needs  - The visitor needs of BBC bitesize is for ages as low as 5 which is for keystage 1. BBC Bitesize is split into different stages which are for different year / age groups with keystage 1 being for 5 to 7 year olds, keystage 2 is for 7 to 11 year olds, keystage 3 is 11 to 14 year olds and GCSE which is for 15 to 16 year olds. There is different levels for young people living in Wales, Scotland and Northern Island. Someone would want to use this website to gain knowledge about certain subjects and understand how something works, or why it works that way or maybe even a sentence in another language which they can learn in order to use in everyday life and which could come up on a test in school. The visitor wants the website to provide them with that they need to know and to make it easy to read and understand the information which is being given to them so they can understand it and remember it.


C) Information Flow - The BBC bitesize website is easy to navigate which makes the user experience good as it is mainly aimed at young people even as low as the age of 5, a lot of the information is usually displayed is bold and the page itself is colourful which helps you pick out key points on the site. The information displayed is very spaced out and not crammed together where it wouldn’t be easy to spot what you’re looking for.  The page is split into different sections depending on where you’re from and the different keystage levels under them, which are easy to find and click on using the scroll bar.  The search bar and tabs at the top allow you to navigate around the site easily to find what you’re looking for.

D) Information Flow – The website BBC bitesize has a lot of features on it, at the top in the header you have the “BBC” logo in the very top which takes you to the BBC homepage or under it you have in big bold text “Bitesize” which brings you back to the bitesize homepage. Under the bitesize text is “primary” and “secondary” where you can select which school you’re in and then followed by a range of subjects. The website has a scroll bar on the right which allows you to scroll down the site to see more information like below the header which gives you a variety of different places like “England” and “Wales” which then under it has the different key stage levels for different age groups.


E) Benefits – The benefits of the BBC Bitesize website is that you can find out a variety of information about different subjects at different levels for different places like England, Northern Island and Wales. There are a lot of ways in which you can learn the information by reading it with just text where you can make notes, mock tests and an interactive learning program where you can click on different things to watch them happen. These programs help the user by revising for exams which they have coming up and they can easily use the website to find this information.

(Producer) The producer of BBC bitesize which is owned by the BBC, who get paid by the government to display information which help young people and they can get information to new mock tests and other new things that may come up on the tests.


F) Content -


1.  The logo of the BBC at the very top of the website will take you to the homepage of the BBC (bbc.co.uk) where you can find out more information which the site has to offer and not just educational. There is a sign in hyperlinked text next to the logo which allows users to keep up to date with new mock tests and subjects which are added to the site. When users click through the website and go to different subjects they can always click the "Bitsize" hyperlinked text which will be at the top of every page to take them back to the main page where they can choose from a variety of different levels of work.



2. There are different tabs at the top which will take you to different parts of the BBC website so you aren't just stuck on the educational part and you can find out about the news, sport, weather, catchup on tv shows on iplayer, tv, radio and the more tab drops down into further places you can visit like travel, CBBC, music and lots more. There is also a search bar at the top where you can find whatever you are looking for like "Keystage 3 IT" or "GCSE Technology" or "sports rugby" and it will take you to that page.





3. Just under the tabs at the top there are some more hyperlinked text "Primary" and "Secondary" where students can choose from whether they're in primary or secondary education which will then take them to a list of subjects. When "All subjects" is clicked which is on the right it drops down to show many different subjects where you can choose a subject and then choose which level you wish to do that subject at. 








4. Below the banner which advertises the website has changed there are 4 different categories for the user to choose from depending on where they live "England, Northern Island, Scotland or Wales" once they have located where they live they can choose which keystage they're working at or gcse which then takes them to another page where they can choose the subject they wish to study.




5. The scroll bar on the right allows the user to scroll down the page to see further information or they can scroll back up to the top to go back to the homepage.
