LO1 Task 2; Wikipedia

Purpose - The purpose of Wikipedia is to provide users with information about people who are mostly famous like Will Smith with a profile about him, his history and his life. It gives you information about different places like Balch Creek with facts like "It's a 3.5 mile tributary of the Willamette River in the U.S state of Oregon". The information is not always reliable but a lot of it is with people being allowed to edit what the page says if they have something to add. If information isn't correct people can report the page so it can be removed by the people who moderate the site.

Visitor Needs - The Visitor needs of Wikipedia is aimed at everyone who has or can use a computer with their being information on just about anything with it going into detail about certain people and how they ended up where they're and if they're an actor which films they have been in. The information on a lot of pages is aimed at younger people with the information being delivered as being quite simple with pictures and short sentences but some pages have almost no pictures and complicated sentences which are aimed at older people. The visitor would want to be able to quickly access a variety of different information which isn't just filled with complicated text it should be easy to read with pictures to look at which makes it more appealing and makes people want to actually read the page.

Under the logo on the left there are many links to help you like every language you can change it to being displayed and once clicked it changes every page to that language till you click it back to another there are also helpful tabs like “contents” “create a book” “donate to Wikipedia” “random article” “help” “community portal” and many others.

D) Features – The website Wikipedia has a lot of features with every word on the page is hyperlinked to a different page which talks about that specific word, place, person or subject which is full of information. There is a scroll bar on the side of the page, which allows you to scroll down the page and up to see more information, at the top of the page there is the Wikipedia logo on the left which also navigates you back to the home page with a number of different languages below it incase you cant read English. Across from the logo on the top right of the page is where you can login to your account which allows you to edit different pages and either add or delete information on that specific page to improve it.
